Young Professionals' Group

The Young Professionals’ Group (YPG) was established in early 2006 “To promote and empower the development of Young Professionals’ careers in the Consulting Engineering Business”.  Directed towards individuals in member firms with up to 10 years experience in their field, YPG hosts a series of breakfast seminars, socials, and outreach events to develop and teach the networking and business skills necessary to succeed in the consulting industry.  Also check us out on Facebook under CEBC Young Professionals Group.

YPG is a mainline committee of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - British Columbia (ACEC-BC) (Formerly Consulting Engineers of BC (CEBC)), British Columbia’s provincial association of consulting firms, providing a top-down approach to improving the commercial environment for consulting engineering firms. ACEC-BC lobbies clients and policy makers in municipalities, regional districts, and the provincial government, as well as clients in the private sector. ACEC-BC coordinates a common industry approach on procurement, contract language and liability issues. www.cebc.org

ACEC-BC is one of the member associations of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Canada (ACEC), Canada’s national association of consulting firms. ACEC´s mission is to promote and safeguard the business and professional interests of the Canadian consulting engineering industry in Canada and abroad. www.acec.ca

ACEC is one of the member associations of FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (the acronym stands for the French version of the name) representing the consulting engineering industry globally. As such, the Federation promotes the business interest of firms supplying technology-based intellectual services for the built and natural environment.  www.fidic.com

About ACEC-BC

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - British Columbia is British Columbia’s provincial association of consulting firms that provide engineering and other technology-based intellectual services to the built and natural environment. Member companies offer professional engineering services worldwide to private sector and government clients.

Incorporated as a Society in 1976, with liaison groups in the Okanagan, Vancouver Island and Northern BC, and renamed in 2011, ACEC-BC provides a top-down approach to improving the commercial environment for consulting engineering firms by lobbying to clients and policy makers in municipalities, regional districts, and the provincial government, as well as clients in the private sector. CEBC coordinates a common industry approach on procurement, contract language and liability issues. For more information about ACEC-BC membership services see Services for Members.

The association’s membership consists of 86 independent consulting engineering firms, representing a combined workforce of 7,100 engineers and geoscientists, technicians, technologists and other support staff in their consulting engineering teams. Members range in size from sole proprietors to multinational companies, and they provide a complete range of services in every aspect of:

  • Buildings and Structures
  • Municipal Engineering
  • Transportation
  • Natural Resources, Energy and Environment
  • Specialized, High Tech and Soft Engineering

To search for a ACEC-BC consulting engineering firm, see the online Directory of CEBC Member Firms.

As a voluntary, membership driven organization, ACEC-BC is led by a Board of Directors constituted from member firms from across the province. ACEC-BC is managed by a full time Secretariat with offices located in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The ACEC-BC committee structure was reorganized in 2004 to more closely represent those industry sectors predominated by the membership. These mainline committees include Building, Municipal, Resource and Energy and Transportation. In addition there are three internal committees that address issues common to all the membership. These include Business Practice, Membership Affairs and Professional Development.

Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine

Canadian Consulting Engineer is a magazine for professional engineers working as consultants in the construction field.  Published since 1959, it is the only national engineering magazine in Canada that covers all engineering disciplines and all geographic regions.

The feature articles focus on innovative and high profile engineering projects, ranging from civil works in transportation (highways, airports, bridges, etc.), to water treatment plants and sewage works, to hydroelectric dams and power generation. On a smaller scale, we look at building construction, including structures, mechanical and electrical systems, energy management and building controls. We also periodically feature site planning and environmental remediation, industrial processes and controls -- in short, we cover the myriad world of engineering in Canada.

Business articles and departments investigate techniques for improving management practices, construction law and financial issues. We also run features investigating problems and controversies of the day as they affecting engineering companies and individual engineers. The most popular issue every year is in the fall when we have the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards, a prestigious annual program held by the magazine in association with the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada.
